We all want to have a happy, healthy and safe summer with our dog, but want to remind people that the beach and sand can poses a threat to many dogs as I shared last year with Josie ending up in the hospital for the night after a day at the beach.  The four major safety concerns are: dehydration, salt intoxication, sunburns (including paws) and a heat stroke.

Call it the power of the shamrock, the charm of the leprechaun, or just the luck of the Irish, but March is full of fun times and the kick off of Spring. First, I still think and call Josie my puppy. So, when is a puppy really not considered a puppy any longer? They say puppies mature into adults at a different time depending on their breed.  Large dog breeds mature into adults around 15 months and smaller breeds will be puppies for only 9 months.  This is important to note since you'll need to feed a large dog breed specially formulated puppy food for much longer than you would a smaller breed dog. So, according to this-Josie is not a puppy anymore-but to me she will always be my little pup.
